Higher engagement levels help drive performance and keep your employees satisfied. Do you know the engagement level of your team?
- 67% of U.S. workers are not engaged at work
- 71% of millennials are not engaged or actively disengaged at work
- Per Gallup, actively disengaged employees cost the U.S. $450 billion to $550 billion per year
Employees want to show up to work, be excited and enjoy what they do. When employees are engaged, this leads to higher satisfaction, productivity, profitability and lower absenteeism, turnover and safety incidents. Ultimately, we want employees to show up and want to give 100% because they like what they do and feel connected to their manager, team and company.
Unfortunately, engagement levels are low around the world – 33% in the United States and only 13% on a global basis. What this means is that on a team of ten people, on average, in the United States only three people actual like their job and are excited to come to work each day. The remaining seven either dislike their job and manager or just view the job as a way to make money and pay bills. It’s critical for companies to understand what their engagement levels are so they can take steps to improve them.
What can we do?
The Gallup Q12 survey can help your team and company achieve greater success. The survey is an effective approach to assess the engagement levels of your employees. The Gallup research team spent decades studying this area and developed a simple survey to help companies and people increase engagement levels. Gallup has studied survey results from more than 25 million employees around the world. This step of analyzing engagement can improve lives and is a win-win for employees, customers, the company and shareholders.
The process doesn’t require lengthy, complicated and expensive surveys that take up a lot of time but rather 12 questions that accurately measure what matters most to your employees and helps to manage employee engagement and performance outcomes. The scores are measured on a scale of 1 to 5 and the survey is easy to administer and understand. The results are helpful to determine where we need to focus our attention and develop coaching programs.
